Q. Are you open on Sundays and holidays?

A. Our normal hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
In addition to summer and New Year’s holidays, we may close for stocktaking or renovations. Please check in advance before visiting.

Q. Do you accept credit cards?

A. We accept all major credit card companies. However, we do not accept debit cards or electronic payment.

Q. I’d like to give one of your products as a gift. Do you offer a gift wrapping service?

A. Many customers purchase our products as gifts.
We offer gift wrapping and gift bags.

Q. Do you carry any other brands besides your original products?

A. We carry knives from popular brands such as Misono, Masamoto, Sugimoto, Glestain, and Ryusen Hamono.

Q. Can I take the knives I purchased back to my home country?

A. You cannot bring knives on board an airplane as carry-on baggage. However, you can check them in with your luggage.
Please check the airline’s weight restrictions in advance.

Q. Can I do tax-free procedures at your shop?

A. Tax-free procedures are handled at the agency located on Kappabashi Dougu Street.
You will need the purchased items, a report prepared by our store, and your passport.

Sharpening and Repairs

Q. How long does it take to resharpen a knife?

A. Generally, resharpening takes about one week, regardless of the number of knives.
We offer same-day service for household knives (double-edged knives such as Bunka knives (all-purpose knives)) with blades 21 cm or shorter and without major damage.
Express Service

Q. Can you repair a knife that I bought at another shop?

A. Yes, we can repair knives purchased from other shops.

Q. I live far away. Can I send my knife for sharpening?

A. Yes.
Please package it securely and send it by courier service.
Once sharpening is complete, we will return the knife via cash on delivery. Please pay the total, including return shipping, directly to the courier upon receipt.

Q. Can you provide an estimate for the repair cost via telephone or email?

A. We have basic fees based on the type and size of the knife. However, an accurate estimate depends on the extent of the damage, so we can only provide one after examining the knife.

Q. Do you offer honba-zuke (final edging) for new knives bought from other stores?

A. We offer complimentary final edging for Kamata Hakensha knives purchased at our shop while you wait. Please note that this service is not available for knives purchased elsewhere, even for a fee. Kamata Hakensha knives are ready to use, while knives from other manufacturers usually require more work, which incurs a fee.

Q. The handle of my knife is broken. Can you repair it?

A. We cannot repair Western knife handles, as they are attached with rivets and may require welding.
Handle inserts of Japanese knives can be replaced, but in some cases, repair may not be possible if the blade is severely rusted or corroded.

Q. How many days does it take to replace a handle?

A. In order to ensure durability, we have the handle replaced by a professional. This takes about 10 days.

Personalized Engraving Service

Q. What is the cost and time required for personalized engraving of a knife?

A. Personalized engraving is free.
It usually takes about three minutes per knife, though it may take longer during busy periods.

Q. If I pay a fee, can I have personalized engraving done on a knife that I purchased at another shop?

A. No. Personalized engraving is offered only for knives purchased at our shop as a gesture of appreciation.

Q. If I previously purchased a knife at your shop, can I have it engraved at a later date?

A. Yes, we will provide engraving at any time. However, please note that we will require a receipt from the time of purchase if the knife is not Kamata Hakensha brand.
