Kamata Hakensha holds a kitchen knife sharpening class on the first and third Tuesday of every month. Please see below for details.
The Hocho (kitchen knife) sharpening class Advanced Class is only for those who have completed the Introductory Class.
If you would like to take the Advanced Level please complete the Introductory Class first.

* Each application is for one person.
* Please pay the fee at the reception on the 1st floor on the day of the course.

April 2020 Sharpening Class

The kitchen knife sharpening class in April is scheduled to be held on the 7th and 21st (Tuesday).
Applications will open at 10:00 AM on Sunday, March 1st.

May 2020 Sharpening Class

Due to the spread of COVID-19, the sharpening class in April will be postponed to May to ensure the safety of the students.
Therefore, applications for May, which were scheduled to open April 1, will be cancelled.

Introductory Class

You will receive an introduction to whetstones and knives which will allow you to sharpen dull knives on your own.
Participants will be awarded a certificate of completion from the All Japan Knife Sharpening Certification Association.

Time 11:00 to 12:30
Capacity 10 people
Tuition fee 5,000 yen (tax included)

Teaching materials All items will be provided within the classroom, so you do not need to bring anything.
You can take the whetstone, towel, and textbook home wih you.

Advanced Class

Use techniques learned in the Introductory Class to revitalize your own knife.
We will provide individual guidance within a small group setting.
Participants will be awarded a certificate of completion from the All Japan Knife Polishing Certification Association.
